Today was a good training day, though it wasn’t really supposed to be.
As I mentioned in a post below, my dad had his knee replaced on Monday. Which is a good thing. He’s been in a rehab center all week, and will continue for a good part of next week. My brother Dahood and I were planning on charging into town yesterday or today. But I was convinced out of it because we got several calls about the big snowstorm (and we have to go over the mountains to get there), and the fact that we will actually be more help once Da gets home from the rehab center and we can lend a hand there.
So, we didn’t go and that left me free to go over to Chris’ place and work on our martial arts training (primarily longsword).
And we had a good time of it. It was just the two of us at first, and then we were joined by the lovely and talented Miss Becca, who had come all the way up from Newport News to visit old friends and prior roommates. It was lovely indeed to see her, and she was game enough to join in on the fighting fun.
After a good bit of sword training, Chris asked if we could practice some empty hand stuff, and we had a go at that. We did a good bit of strike training, Russian style, and also got into movement training for kick defense and such.
After both longsword play (and it was nice the way we trained today, with a lot of movement, not concentrating on just learning techniques) and the empty hand stuff, I definitely feel worked over. Good job Chris and Becca!
Becca did take a few photos and a couple of vids with her digital camera. If she ever gets around to sending them to me, I’ll post some of them.
Later, we ended up at the Irish Brigade for a pint or two and some appetizers. Good times…
It’s a good thing, because after that, I met Walt and Nancy for the movie “Jumper.” We were to meet at a Mexican restaurant up there in Garrisonville, but I got held up in traffic on 95N, backed up because of a medevac for a crash that closed all lanes. So I didn’t get to eat, but I did make it in time for the movie.
Which turned out to be quite enjoyable (in spite of Hayden Christensen and his only expression/performance: “the brood”). I loooove Diane Lane, and that Rachel Bilson girl is a super cutie. Me like.
