Tonight’s little workout was a good one. I got that numb-front-teeth feeling that lets me know I’ve gone hypoxic/alactic, so that’s a good thing.
Started off with 5 minutes bokken work in the air and against the heavy bag. I like the feedback striking an object gives me; lets me tune my striking/cutting. I’ve been using the bokken as a change-up from the kali sticks. Love them both, but you have to train in a variety of modes. My Systema feeds into my stick work which feeds into my bokken. I like the way each plays, and how each informs the other.
Then went into 5 minutes kettlebell long cycle clean and jerk (LCCJ) with the heavy bell (32 kg).
Followed up with 5 minutes kbell LCCJ with the medium bell (24 kg). Nice. Felt a little light after Ivan (the big bell 🙂 ).
Finished with some abs; a set of half Turkish Get Ups (TGU) for the obliques and some crunches/sit ups, then stretching and cool down. Nice session. I’m listening to some subliminal health suggestions/brainwave training on my iPod as I’m getting ready to head over the the Y for the glorious jacuzzi/sauna/steam room.
While I’m waiting, here’s last night’s workout: a little bokken work to start out, then went into 5 minutes of interval jump rope-you jump rope for so many skips, then 10 pike-ups (reverse crunches, basically), rinse, repeat. The next 5 minutes was just interval high intensity aerobics with the Heavy Hands hand weights (with salsa and merengue moves thrown in ‘coz I’m rusty). Then abs/stretching/cooldown. Refreshing to not have to hoist heavies, but still got the sweat on.
Anyway, off to the Y. Enjoy, and I’ll talk at you all latah.
